Niagara Falls in March (Part II)

The Food

That’s right, a whole post dedicated to just the food photos of the day. I took almost as many food photos as I did people + things photos, can you believe that?! (Somehow, when I imagine your responses, I’m envisioning blank, unsurprised expressions.) I’m not really that surprised either. It’s food, I mean, come on.

We enjoyed browsing the cute candy shop while at Niagara. The ladies working encouraged me to take photos of the different goodies they’d made and I was, of course, happy to oblige.

After the falls we went to an oriental style buffet for a celebratory dinner!

Typically I really try to avoid buffets, and that’s because I usually don’t eat enough to make it worth the price. But boy, this food was delicious. So I decided I’d just have to take one for the team. And I really outdid myself.

My smiling sushi plate. He has no idea what’s in store for him, or he wouldn’t be smiling.

Feeling light and happy, I also decided I would do something courageous and brave to celebrate. So I tried eel. Surprisingly it was good! It wasn’t out-of-this-world, and I’ll admit, I was kind of hoping it would be after all the hard work I went through working myself up to eating it. But at least it wasn’t vomit-on-the-table bad.

This was definitely my favorite. Cookies & Cream ice cream with fresh peach slices. Oh, yum. That’s right. Unfortunately, the perfect photograph was interrupted by father and son duel victory signs. I was too interested in the ice cream to take another shot.

I definitely had more than this, as well as about five cups of green tea, but this is all I actually photographed. I hope you’re all having a fabulous weekend!

I was just thinking as I was reading that, wait, aren’t you vegans?! I like Sushitarian. We should coin that term and use it.

Great photos! I love eel ^_^ (I think I love most seafood and sushi, actually) but it is certainly an acquired taste. Looks like you had a fabulous trip – and congratulations on becoming a landed immigrant ^_^

As far as sushi goes, I’ve only really tried the simple cream cheese + cucumber/avocado + crab/salmon and I consider it to be my safe ground. I tried a different roll once and it was really gross, I just can’t remember what it was called! Eel was a big step for me, but it tasted a lot like watery chicken. (But it was good!)

It’s be a little while until you’re ready to move onto chicken’s feet then :p!

Love the candy syrup bottle shot at the top ^_^ Are there other Japanese foods you haven’t tried yet? For me, eating eel is like eating any other animal. I’m not thrilled about it, but it tastes fine and I don’t have an instinctual aversion to it. Then again, I also have no problem with octopus (takoyaki!) or other critters that might not appeal to Western palates.

I was turned off tako when I was younger because one of my mother’s Japanese students brought a live one over as a gift and I walked into the kitchen and saw one of it’s tentacles still moving. Scared me half to death! I haven’t tried it since.

also, those candies look YUM. And I’m glad you decided to try eel. At first, I didn’t know how to feel about it. But there’s this lovely sushi restaurant here in town (Sakura) and they make THE best BBL eel roll (and normally I wouldn’t suggest it to others, but it’s the AWESOME). 🙂

BBL eel? What kind of roll is that, if you don’t mind me asking?

Funny enough, my entire trip to Brazil I think I took more photos of food and all of us eating than anything else.
