Spurred: Another Photo A Day

I thought long and hard before committing myself to another 365 days project. I know, I know, you’re going to tell me I’m crazy and that I must enjoy putting myself through misery- but let me finish first. It’s definitely not another self-portrait project. I don’t think I would ever, could ever, do that again. (Unless maybe I was pregnant.) So I proposed that I just take a photo a day, of whatever I want.

Hmm. Somehow that seemed a little too easy. (Believe me, it probably isn’t. Taking a photo a day can sometimes be a challenge. But this is how my brain works.) I thought that if I just took a photograph a day that I’d wind up taking photos of the same things I always take photos of, and that doesn’t help me become a better photographer, does it? So this project is a little different, in that it’s a photo day, and I can have whatever subject I want, but I have a prompt every single day!

The idea was proposed to me by Dani of Midget On The Edge, and after much thinking and chewing, I finally decided sure why not. So here I am. (And no, I’m not pregnant.) I’m not the only photographer taking this challenge, and I urge fellow photographers to consider taking the challenge yourself. Whether you’re a beginner, seasoned professional, hobbyist, or just plain in a rut. You’re not signing a contract, you don’t have to make it all the way through, but I’ve had a lot of fun doing this project so far, and it’s been even more fun doing it with a group. The best part is, you can join in at any time by just shooting today’s prompt! You can join the flickr group if you’d like, or if you want to give it a shot without joining, here is our list of enough prompts to fill your calender every day for a year. We have people joining every day, so grab your camera and join us!

“Light”

“Tall”

Okay, so this isn’t exactly what I had planned for today, but it was my birthday so hopefully you’ll all graciously let it slide.

It’s a goal of mine this year to take more “tall” aka “portrait” photos. I have a horrible love affair with wide aka “landscape”. Almost all my photos are wide shots. So while I planned on the portrait shot for the prompt “tall”, I hadn’t planned it being of Tom grating stuff for our pizza.

“Switch”

I look forward to Christmas for lots of reasons, certainly for much more than just gifts, but I’m not lying when I tell you that one of the things I get excited about is pajama season. Usually I can rely on getting pajamas, and I love that. These are two sets that Tom picked out for me. (I love them.) My favorite part is that each one is interchangeable! Even though they’re two totally different sets, I can switch them for each other at any time and I’ll still match.

(In case you’re curious, because I know I would be, the pink shirt and two pink bottoms were in the first set, and the white shirt and purple bottoms were in the second.)

“Craft”

You may laugh now, but making a veggie patty can be hard work! Not to mention that yellow smile and red hair. (Yes, that’s supposed to be hair.) Oh well, I’ll get better.

“Leftover”

We have this beautiful piece of handmade Romanian glassware that was given to us as a gift, and we use it as our table centerpiece and fill it with seasonal potporri. Not all of it fits elegantly though. Here are some leftovers that I put on the windowsill.

I actually really like how white this is.

“Up”

Well, I thought that the snow was going for good, but I guess I was wrong! It started snowing up a storm outside on day six. I did actually leave the apartment and go on a photoshoot- but I thought it was intriguing to do a shot from up above to match the prompt.

I love this idea! I think I might try it, and join on Flickr, and give myself a damned challenge. I was supposed to do a project with a fellow blogger, though it fell through for some reason. I’m losing ideas quick, so I think this may help. Thanks for the idea, and wonderful shots, as always. : )

I love this idea! I know I could never commit to actually taking a photo every day, much less following a prompt, but I love to see what other people do with the concept.

Thanks for the plug of my group. It was your inspiration that gave me the idea (yelling at me that one day to take photos of square things just to have a focus), so thank you for that. The group is so much fun already. I’m so looking forward to seeing it develop over the year.
