So I have been hearing this bell every day, or roughly every day, that sounds oddly like a mix between classic school bell and a really huge flag clanging against a pole. But it doesn’t go off in a steady rhythm and it tends to sound louder at some times than at others. So I was laying in bed this morning and I heard it, and so I asked Tom what it was. He told me it was a tool sharpening truck that comes by, like the ice cream truck except for tools.
“Come on, I’m not that gullible!” I said. (Yes, I am.) And he continued to try and tell me it was the tool sharpening truck. But he had this silly grin on his face as he was trying to tell me, very similar to the one he gets when he’s trying to pull one over on me, so I stood firm in my non-belief!
So he encouraged me to stare out the window in an attempt to see this “imaginary truck” as it went by. So, there I am, staring out the window, feeling like a silly sod, when all of a sudden Jim starts walking down the driveway with all our cutlery.
WHAT?
YES.
He wasn’t lying.

17 Jul 2009 at 11:03 amThat sounds so bizarre. I laughed when I pictured what kel said about men running down the street after it with their tools, like kids chase an ice cream truck with their quarters, haha.

I would have reacted the same as you if it weren’t for one of my favorite shows…Good Eats, on the Food Network. Alton did a show about knives one time, and the knife-sharpening part was with a fellow who had a truck just like that. It’s a really neat idea, I think, though I don’t know how much interest people around here would have in it. That’s probably why I’ve never seen one in person.

13 Jul 2009 at 9:08 amSounds like something from RED GREEN. HAHAHAHAHAHA I have the image of men running down the street with their tools after this truck. Like little kids after ice cream. Well, its like ice cream for them actually. HAHAHAHA

12 Jul 2009 at 4:24 pmOh wow I didn’t know people actually used them! This truck goes up and down our street too (though grottier looking) and it’s always such a disappointment when you think it’s ice cream. :*(
