Okay, forget any posts I had planned for today because I just can’t wait to share this, sorry. Last night we had some “heat lightning”, which is what I grew up calling summer lightning and thunder with no rain. And I was able to take my very first lightning shots. It took two hours of sitting patiently and a loooooot of shots with absolutely nothing in the frame. I told myself it was late, and I was “just going to try to capture one” while standing at the window with my camera, so I didn’t bother with a tripod. But then lightning flashed and I snapped and I GOT ONE. (It is the second one pictured.) And I was hooked. So I moved to the kitchen and just sat at the table watching for a few hours with my camera resting on the edge, waiting.
These photos remind me of album covers I used to start at for hours by ELO. I tried to find them for you but Google came up empty handed. They had a purple album and a blue one, perhaps even in a set together, and all that was on the cover was lightning similar to this. I loved those.

8 Jun 2011 at 6:43 pmI’d love to see lightning like this some day. We only get intracloud lightning here. I love all your sky shots, regardless of the weather ^_^

8 Jun 2011 at 5:06 pmI know it was the Afterglow CD but the ones my dad had were slightly different? (We were in Japan at the time so that might be why!) There were three disks and each one had lightning on it. Blue, purple, and I can’t remember the other one.
EDIT:

8 Jun 2011 at 12:36 pmDude. I LOOOVED ELO in high school and know EXACTLY what album covers you’re talking about! How funny. Also, these are amazing. I can’t remember the last time I saw lightning. SNIFF.

8 Jun 2011 at 12:05 pmThis is exactly what Michael and I did. But we are dummies and took the camera outside on the tripod and got the camera wet!! Amazing shots though!

8 Jun 2011 at 10:12 amOoo the heat lighting had rain for us! It was like a blissful cold shower. Lucky you having such a great view! We have so many trees in the neighbourhood I didn’t get to see many forks.

8 Jun 2011 at 9:43 amThe first one is my absolute favorite. The city lights in the bottom just add so much although they are so little. I’ve tried to get lightning before with no luck! (We also called it heat lightning growing up!)
