The Beginning of February

I hope everyone had a grand weekend. It’s starting to get really hot here, but you’ll hear no complaints for me. I am prepared this year. Flip flops, spaghetti straps, shorts, cold showers- BRING IT ON, SUMMER.

Here are some of my photographs from the Spurred project from early February. Enjoy!

Faith

Just before Christmas we visited Goodwill on half off day and found an enormous selection of old genesis games. Tom still has the Sega Genesis from his childhood days (my sister and I had a Sega CD combo) so we picked up a bunch of games without hesitation, having complete faith they would work. (They do.)

Right

Normally I shoot in “Av” (Aperture Priority) mode. This gives me control over the f stop and the exposure. It’s my favorite mode to shoot in. However, after shooting a panorama in Manual, I forgot to switch it back, so the entire day I was shooting in “M” (Manual) mode by mistake. It’s a wonder any of my photos turned out right at all.

(I did this one in B&W because I really wanted to do my Wednesday photo in color, but I still wanted to end up with 52 B&W photos at the end of the year. I hope you’ll forgive me!)

Fragile

This thing is actually a beast. The box it came in, marked “fragile”, is half my size. We picked it up because so many of our healthy recipe books or food blogs call for them. It honestly seems you can’t be vegan (or a health nut) without one! I’ve tried doing it on my own, or in pieces using the Magic Bullet, but it takes so much longer. I’m looking forward to using this.

Community

Depending on how long you’ve been reading this blog, you may or may not know that I met Tom when I was fifteen in the writing section of a forum for a TV show we both liked at the time. We wrote several stories together with our friends. Back in high school my friends and I would pass around notebooks with stories in the pages. We each would add a little, and then hand it off to the next person in line. It was a ridiculous amount of fun. As I grew older I found myself yearning for the flexability to write more than just G rated stories (Nobody likes having a grown man in their story say, “Shoot” when the nuclear reactor has just exploded.) and I knew there to be an easier way to write with friends than passing around notebooks; so I created a forum all my own called Minus the Papercuts.

For several years it thrived, but a vicious hack took us offline in 05. I spent a lot of time staring at code way over my head, (I’m no professional, I just love to write) and trying to retrieve all the information everyone had spent ages working on. After a few years of trying to reboot the site, but never being satisfied with the layout, or functionalities, and becoming frustrated with my shortcomings as a coder- I sort of gave up. It was always in the back of my mind, something I wished was working, or fixed, or available.

After I came back from Ireland I began working on it again and I finally had the courage to write it down as a goal/resolution for 2011. After lots of hard (and mostly secret, in case I failed) work, I relaunched it with the New Year. I was (am) hell bent on achieving the goals I set for 2011- so far so good!

Shadow

Old News

This is old news, but one year for my birthday my mom bought me a really neat set of studio lights. I couldn’t bring them with me when I came over to Canada the first time, but I picked them up when we were in Frankenmuth visiting them this past December.

You Can’t Slip By Morn!

When Tom comes home during the week Morn and I will literally race to the door to be the first one to greet him. It’s kind of ridiculous because, well, I’m Tom’s wife but he still insists and waddle running to the door to beat me there. I try to remind myself that he’s just excited, and that he runs to the door to greet me when I come home too, but I get all antsy and competitive and pathetically try racing a cat to the front door. Picture that for a second. It’s really funny.

After Tom’s home for a bit, he’ll usually sit on the couch and let Morn on to his lap. I’ve mentioned before that if we stand around talking for too long Morn will start meowing quietly at his feet to remind him that he has forgotten something. Well the other day we were getting ready to leave right away, so Tom was checking for directions on his phone while sitting on the arm of the couch. Would you believe it that Morn jumped up on to his lap anyway and climbed onto his chest? Well you don’t have to, because I of course have photographs.

A Gift From Genevieve

Several weeks ago I received a surprise package in the mail from Genevieve, who is one of the new friends I’ve made during the group 365 prompt project. Theodore (that’s what I’ve named the camera) is a Kodak No. 2A Folding Autographic Brownie. I have a few film cameras, and I’ve been thinking about playing with film, but the moment I held this one I immediately wanted to use it. I could see Tom upside down through my tiny little viewer and I immediately wanted to take photos. Unfortunately, Theodore here takes 116, a film size no longer made. But I’ve heard you can take 120 film and re-spool it onto 116, so it’s definitely something I’m considering. (All photos except the last one were taken by Tom!)

Space, Sweaters & Snow

Okay, I need to start posting one of these collections at least once a week or I’ll truly never catch up! (Plus, I’ve taken some really cool photos lately that I really want to share but I can’t until I catch up.) These are from early February so there was still sweaters and snow. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend, and I hope my friends and readers in the States are enjoying their Memorial Day. Take lots of photos!

Shopping

Booorrriiing. Sorry.

Domestic

(That would be NuPak and Yves – both Canadian.)

Lost

Imagine, for a moment, that this is a photo of the milky way galaxy.

Doorway

I can’t seem to get out of the “self portrait” habit, and I also am just in the winter slump. I’m ready to go out and take photos outside but it’s always so cold a snowy.

This is our Solarium. It’s surrounded by windows and has a sliding glass doorway so we can seal ourselves off from the world and do whatever work it is we want to do. This is our shared office. Tom is on the left, I am on the right, and the cats are in the middle.

Book
A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.

This is my journal. The inside is removable so I can reuse the cover. I love it.
Yes, that is cat hair on my sweater. =]

Space

I couldn’t help myself. (Here’s a matching one of me just for kicks.)

Yoga With Pumpkin

Pumpkin’s Blog, Stardate Caturday

I know it’s been a while, but Morn’s been all over his blog lately and I was feeling a little left out. Today I will be providing you with your first Purr Yoga lesson. You might not know it, but Purr Yoga is in fact the most practiced and best form of Yoga in the world. Well, humans may not be practicing it but we felines have been practicing for hundreds of years. We have mastered flexibility, the art of four hour meditation and all day zen (we call it purr)! Some of the poses are pretty intense, but we’ll start with easy stuff today.

The Curl

This is a basic beginner pose. You’ll want to make sure your hips and legs are angled slightly to the side. There is a more advance version of this pose, but I don’t want you to hurt yourself, so don’t try it.

The Reach

Make sure to point and stretch your leg as much as possible. Point your leg up and toward your opposite shoulder and turn your head to the side.

Foot Face

From Reach you can slide directly into Foot Face. Lay on your side for this one and keep your other leg straight while bringing this one up to your face.

Side Strech

After Reach and Foot Face you’ll need to stretch out your spine so just pull back into a relaxed position and hold it for 90 seconds. Make sure your hands flop like mine.

Wait a second. This isn’t a pose. What’s going on here?! Sara’s distracting me!

Hmm, well…. I guess it’s okay…

Purr achieved. Yoga practice success.

See you next time!
