St. Patrick’s Day in Milton

Over the past year I’ve been feeling like I’d love to dip my toes into birding and taking photos of said birds, and ever since I brought home a 100mm, birding has become a real possibility. On sunny days my mind is filled with nature walks, nature preserves, and bird observatories. I have a few Ontario birding websites bookmarked in my browser and an Ontario birding app too, but the opportunity to go out birding hasn’t really arisen, since I’ve been so busy with other projects. But it’s important to remember that photography for me is a way to explore new and exciting things, so I have to make time for outings like this. On St. Patrick’s Day Tom and I went on a hike with his mum and her husband, and to my surprise the location we chose was not only filled with fantastic nature trails, but also home to a bird rehabilitation program and maple syrup farm. I met so many new friends! I met some birds who, though really sweet, unfortunately can’t be rehabilitated into the wild so they spend there time here. (One hawk was hit by a car and unable to fly for more than a few minutes at a time and another Merlin was human imprinted, which means he thinks he’s human.) It was a foggy day filled with animals, learning about maple syrup, refined maple sugar cookies, and great company. I hope we make it a new St. Patrick’s day family tradition.

I think my favorite part of visiting farms is asking if I can meet the animals. =)

Oh my word, I’m dying. They are all so sweet! I’m especially fond of those bunnies. I WANT TO SNUGGLE WITH THEM BOTH.

Thanks, Jade! They had lambs too and all I wanted to do was cuddle one, haha.

Thanks, Wayne. I totally didn’t know what the bird was called and now I can label it properly. =)

Oh my gosh, the photos of the rabbits and the goat absolutely melt my heart, but I love them all! I hate that about the birds, though. :/ At least they have someone who cares about them to take care of them now.
