Getting Comfortable With A Lead

Atlas has been practicing with a lead inside so that when he’s comfortable enough we might be able to take him outside. Morn absolutely loves his walks, but he started as an outdoor cat and so I think he misses going outside sometimes. Pumpkin started as an indoor cat and when we tried to take him outside, it didn’t go well. (He just stayed huddled in my arms shaking.) Pumpkin likes his safe world inside, and perhaps Atlas will too, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

An Instagram Caturday

d2a192a882b811e18bb812313804a181_7

Happy Caturday, everyone! This week I thought I’d share some of the photos I’ve been taking on Instagram. (My username is saralynnpaige if you want to be friends! Let me know you’re from the blog & I’ll add you too!) Instagram has actually been really fun (and frustrating) for me because it forces the perfectionist in me to relax and remembering that photography is about capturing moments that I want to keep, not about the perfect photograph. The lomo style that accompanies taking pictures with a cellphone has been really good for me. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it’s certainly going to be mine forever.

Caturday With Morn & My New Hair

7075066373_debf089430_z

I try to post three times a week, but on Wednesday I did something I’ve never done before and I was so excited I spent the time I should have been posting looking up short hair tutorials on YouTube. This morning, realizing it was Caturday, I leapt up out of bed, threw on my clothes from yesterday (because I’m dorky and like the photos in my posts to match!) and asked Tom to take some photos of Morn and me.

This is the first time I’ve ever done anything this drastic with my hair, ever, and I love it. I have wanted a shorter hair style since 1999 but never had the courage. I’m so glad I finally did.

Yesterday I used one towel instead of two after showering, I only used one pump of shampoo (versus four or sometimes five), my hair was dry and ready in five minutes, and I did my workout without a ponytail falling loose. I used Tom’s hair wax because I realized I don’t have anything like that for styling shorter hair, but I’m excited to find a jar my very own. Gals out there with short hair, do you have any recommendations for your favorite products?

For years I’ve done a yo-yo of cutting my hair and immediately growing it back out again, but for once I feel like I’d like to keep this for quite a while. I’m looking forward to summer with short hair, rocking cute vintage hats, and getting ready in record time.

The Stranger Who Isn’t Atlas

I saw a cat on my outdoor adventures this week! I told Atlas that he’d travelled back from the future to tell me to give him extra cuddles or the world might end, but he caught on that I was teasing him. I hope you’re all having a great weekend!

A Sleepy, Belated Caturday

Some Caturdays are long and tiring and there isn’t time to post what I plan. Yesterday was one of those, and after a long day of levitating (I’ll explain on Monday) and excitement, I came home and fell asleep on the couch (with friends).

The shutter sound woke us up.

(Taken by Tom, of course.)

A Saint Patrick’s Caturday

Happy St. Patrick’s day, everyone! Today Tom and I are going for a hike and it’s super foggy so I’m excited for the potential photo opportunities. I hope it stays foggy like this all day! Have a great day everyone.

The Clowder Club Tree House

I came out of the bedroom one day a few weeks ago to discover our three furballs (I affectionately call them the Clowder Club sometimes) hanging out on the top of the cat tree together. I guess it’s now officially their tree house! Happy Caturday!

Atlas Watches The Snow

Well, winter may have finally come for us! We had some snow yesterday, it’s -13° outside today, and the snow has stayed on the ground without any grass peeking through! Atlas had fun watching it and I had fun watching him.

Their Favorite Places

I thought today we’d visit a few of the cats’ favorite spaces, aside from the cat tree. Pumpkin will sit like this, hanging over your arm, while you work on the computer. He purrs lightly and will often drop his chin down to rest on your wrist. (I like that last photo of Pumpkin because he looks like he’s up to something sinister.)

Atlas claimed the back of our BCC (big comfy chair) when he was just a wee kitten. He is the only cat that lounges there and if he’s not hanging out with a person or another cat, he can be found there, tucked between the back of the chair and the top of the cushion.

Morn is usually on someone. If however, he is not on someone, he’s on the cat tree, or he’s stolen your seat. He’s a ninja like that. You can’t get up to do anything or he’ll suddenly have been just where you were sitting. And he’ll look so comfortable you’d think he’d been there for hours. And then of course you don’t want to move him, so I suspect that’s his plan all along.

Breakfast With The Boys

Dogs get all the credit for being smart and learning tricks and cats are left holding the short end of the stick. A lot of cats learn tricks, and I’ve personally grown fond of teaching them. I think since our cats are indoors, it’s important to stretch their brains a little and give them a challenge.

Before breakfast the boys must sit quietly (we say, “おすわり”) and wait until Tom or I asks them to “touch” or, as they’ve just recently learned, “high five”. Pumpkin is the touching master. He will touch the exact same spot you put your fingers on, no matter where it is. Atlas is the high five master, which is actually more like a really fast patty-cake for him. And Morn is the only know that knows “love me”, where he rubs his face against your hand.

Happy Caturday!
