Atlas Watches The Snow
Well, winter may have finally come for us! We had some snow yesterday, it’s -13° outside today, and the snow has stayed on the ground without any grass peeking through! Atlas had fun watching it and I had fun watching him.

I thought today we’d visit a few of the cats’ favorite spaces, aside from the cat tree. Pumpkin will sit like this, hanging over your arm, while you work on the computer. He purrs lightly and will often drop his chin down to rest on your wrist. (I like that last photo of Pumpkin because he looks like he’s up to something sinister.)
Atlas claimed the back of our BCC (big comfy chair) when he was just a wee kitten. He is the only cat that lounges there and if he’s not hanging out with a person or another cat, he can be found there, tucked between the back of the chair and the top of the cushion.
Morn is usually on someone. If however, he is not on someone, he’s on the cat tree, or he’s stolen your seat. He’s a ninja like that. You can’t get up to do anything or he’ll suddenly have been just where you were sitting. And he’ll look so comfortable you’d think he’d been there for hours. And then of course you don’t want to move him, so I suspect that’s his plan all along.

Dogs get all the credit for being smart and learning tricks and cats are left holding the short end of the stick. A lot of cats learn tricks, and I’ve personally grown fond of teaching them. I think since our cats are indoors, it’s important to stretch their brains a little and give them a challenge.
Before breakfast the boys must sit quietly (we say, “おすわり”) and wait until Tom or I asks them to “touch” or, as they’ve just recently learned, “high five”. Pumpkin is the touching master. He will touch the exact same spot you put your fingers on, no matter where it is. Atlas is the high five master, which is actually more like a really fast patty-cake for him. And Morn is the only know that knows “love me”, where he rubs his face against your hand.
Happy Caturday!

When the cats came home from over the border we brought home a huge cat tree as a “welcome home” gift. It’s been in the office with us right by the window ever since, and they use it all the time. But we got a new tree this year and I really wanted to put it in the office so you could see it from the window, and also because I think it looks really swell as the centerpiece to our apartment. But, where to move the cat tree? We could put it by the window in the kitchen, but then we’d have cat hair all over the table, and I like to pretend we don’t have a lot already. So I thought I would put it by the bookshelf, which is directly across from the office. Well, Atlas and Pumpkin had fun riding the cat tree like a boat as I pushed it around and across the apartment. And, well, maybe I did it a few extra times across the kitchen floor just because they seemed like they were having such a good time. But Morn didn’t like it over there, so I moved it to a tiny corner in the living room, right next to our solarium and they love it. I always forget that cats do like some change. I think about the toys they get tired of if we leave them out all the time. (However, if we bring them out once and a while, and alternate, they go crazy!) And if you bring home a new box they’re in heaven! Morn is sleeping there right now, and I actually prefer the tree there because I can look up and see them all the time from when I’m working. And they can’t seem to get enough of it. All in all, I’d say the move was a success.
Happy Caturday!

Sorry I’m so late in the day with Caturday, friends! I didn’t forget, I just accidentally stayed up too late reading last night and slept in this morning! (Oops.)
Here are some photos of Atlas from a little bit ago looking out the window as he often does. He’s already grown a little more since these were taken, and he’s growing into his long face, but I’m not used to seeing it. Pumpkin’s face was much rounder as a kitten. I am definitely curious as to how Atlas will look “all growed up”, but not curious enough to wish it away, of course.
Have a great weekend and HAPPY CATURDAY!

As promised, today’s post is to make up for missing Caturday last week. (And hopefully it more than makes up for it!) Did everyone who dressed up have a fun time? We certainly did!
When I was younger I was in a very close group of friends (we are still close today) and like a great deal of young friends who create clubs or build tree forts, we started to call our little band “the pard” (a family of leopards). During sleep overs we’d all pile on the same bed or space, play endless amounts of Dance Dance Revolution, or just dance around to ridiculous music. Dressing up as a leopard for Halloween this year was quite the flashback for me. Those years bring back some very fond memories for me.

Happy Caturday, folks! First of all I just want to say a quick hello to all the new readers that came from the Frankie Magazine feature. I’m sorry that for some of you the site went down a few times during the first few hours, I am currently looking to switch providers so that doesn’t happen again. I’m so glad you came and I’m happy to have you here! And old time visitors may have noticed the new blog design as well. There is still a lot to be done but I’m really loving it so far and I hope you do too. But do let me know if anything buggy happens to you, won’t you? I want to make sure it isn’t giving anyone a hard time. =)
These photos are from the end of summer, so pardon my being half dressed. (And my weird ducky-kissy face?) Both Pumpkin and Atlas are big bag fans. They love crawling inside them and pushing them around, but most of all they love being carried around in them. Morn tells me he doesn’t see what the big deal is with bags, and that he’s more of a box fan. I say to each his own. What do your furry companions like to play with the most? (And have a fabulous weekend!!)

Well, Tom and I are preparing for our second Thanksgiving today, this time with our family (specifically Tom’s dad’s side) and we thought we’d change it up a bit with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and pot pies! And, ahem, another strawberry pie for dessert. But, I didn’t forget about Caturday! So here are some photos of the lovely Alice, taken at Bronwyn’s house last Monday for Thanksgiving. Isn’t her evening light just gorgeous?! The whole apartment lights right up, it’s really breathtaking.

There’s never anything fun about being sick, but in this house (apartment, whatever) there is a little something extra to look forward to other than couch treatment, and that’s the Furry Get Well Soon Committee (known as FuGetWa for short). Any time one of us is feeling under the weather it pretty much guarantees 24/hour cuddle time from the furballs in the house. Now Atlas has yet to catch on to this, but I’m sure he will once he gets older and is no longer excited to the point of panting about gusts of wind or creaking chairs.
Tom seems to have caught that bug that’s been floating around, and he’s had a horrible cough and fever for days, but he seems to be getting better. And he’s certainly smiling a lot with the FuGetWa in action. Thanks, guys. A job well done.
