Last weekend Tom and I had a chance to see Bronwyn for her birthday. We braved the pouring rain and cold winds and utterly drenched, we squeezed into to a packed vegetarian cafe called Fresh. Unfortunately the lighting, while cozy, wasn’t the best for us- and there was only one set of windows in the whole restaurant and they were all the way at the other end! I am spoiled by natural light. Then again, it was gloomy and pouring outside so who knows if it would have helped any. (Learning photographers, it would have, I’m just being a grump about the weather!) But despite all that we really had a fabulous time and I enjoyed the meal and even more so the company. Bronwyn has posted about it on her blog, so be sure to hop over there to see more photos. I don’t think I have ever been on the other side of a blogger’s post like this before- it’s very strange! (In a cool way, of course.)
Happy Birthday, B.

20 May 2011 at 11:36 pmOh wow, thank you! It’s definitely been an adventure. Tom would tell you that he has more fun with food now because we’re experimenting more. Just last night we invented a new version of “grilled cheese” and tomato soup using a chickpea, lemon and rosemary pate instead of the cheese. Mmhmm!
(If you have any questions about health/recipes/etc, please don’t hesitate to email me.)

19 May 2011 at 4:22 pmHappy birthday, Bronwyn! I love seeing both sides of the dinner. You two ladies are a force to be reckoned with–so incredibly beautiful and immensely talented!
The food looks so delicious! I especially love your cupcake photos. You worked well with the poor lighting! These photos have a different tone than most of your others but are just as beautiful and interesting.

20 May 2011 at 11:34 pmThank you so much- it’s so weird to see the other side of the table blogged! But awesome, of course. And I take about a zillion photos of Bronwyn every time we get together because I think she’s just so beautiful!

18 May 2011 at 8:21 amI really didn’t mean to bold the whole comment. HTML tag fail. What’s your favourite thing to eat/drink at Fresh?
Sara
20 May 2011 at 11:31 pmFixed! And I don’t know, to be honest! That was my first time so I don’t know about favorites. I didn’t know you were a regular or I would have asked you what is a good thing to get there! (What do you recommend?)

21 May 2011 at 10:14 amOh, I’m a sucker for the quinoa-onion rings (with barbecue sauce, mmm) and the energy bowl – I’m such a creature of habit, I order the same thing every time! The warrior bowl is very similar to the energy bowl but without the raw veggies,
I want to get my hands on their cookbooks since the recipes don’t seem very complicated! And they are very yum!
Thanks for fixing my comment!

18 May 2011 at 8:20 amOh, I love Fresh!! And those quinoa-battered onion rings? With barbecue sauce? AMAZING. I really want the Fresh cookbook(s); the meals are delicious and don't seem overly complicated!!
I love seeing places I frequent on blogs; it's almost like when you're watching a movie and tv show and are all 'hey! i've been there!' <3

18 May 2011 at 7:52 amAre those sweet potato fries? I have no idea what you’d call them there. Here they’re kumara chips and they come with aioli and basil pesto and they are the seriously delicious.

20 May 2011 at 11:33 pmThese ones here are just regular fries, but Tom and I actually ordered a set of sweet potato fries (that’s what they were called, too)- very very delicious! These came with a vegan garlic mayo! Yum yum!
