I thought I would end this evening and January by posting something I haven’t posted in a few years (I don’t even have a section for it on this new blog!), and that’s a home movie. When I had a Canon Powershot S3 IS, I made a lot of home movies. It was one of my favorite things to do, actually. And I am really grateful for the moments I saved with it- playing with my sisters, making gingerbread houses, carving pumpkins, making hot cocoa, etc. When I first was looking for a DSLR I asked if they had one with video yet, and I kid you not, the rep laughed in my face and said it wasn’t possible. I shrugged and said, “Why not?”
Needless to say, I didn’t buy my first DSLR from him (Amazon, all the way.) and only one year later and they released one with HD video capabilities. When I upgraded I was excited about the video feature, thinking I would go back to making home movies, but I haven’t. I’m not sure why, but I’m pretty sure it’s just that I forget I have video. So here is a very bare bones video of some moments in Ireland. I feel I’m very rusty as far as editing and camera shake goes, but it’s something I want to do more of this year so I know with practice you only become better. I hope you enjoy!
(Yes, I used Enya instead of a whimsical hip indie band, so sue me. She’s Irish. I HAD TO!)

11 Dec 2011 at 6:37 pmIf you’re using any sort of Canon DSLR and you’re importing video into an editing program, you may need to use a video processing software like Neo Cineform to avoid choppiness and jerkiness in the video. It took me trial and error to figure it out on my Canon 5d Mark II and that’s worked the best thus far. I recognized some of the choppiness as what my camera used to do (I’m also a pro photographer) the first few times I tried shooting video. Saving it as a .wmv file worked well, too. Great blog and website(s)!!

2 Feb 2011 at 11:31 amI’ve been trying to post this comment about 4 times so I hope it works today! I just wanted to say that I love your video posts! Remember those old ones when you and Tom first got together?? You too really seem to have grown up a lot since then, together and separately, and it’s a beautiful, wonderful thing. <3

Wow, this is absolutely amazing! I love the wild animals everywhere. It nearly brings me to tears because it seems like a place where you can really feel free and closer to the Earth.
What was Tom saying in the middle of the video? 😉

31 Jan 2011 at 10:49 pmWOW. That last scene was absolutely breathtaking – I loved the contrast of the orange grass against the emerald waters.
I wish I shot video more often, too, but we just have a dinky little Powershot that isn’t very stellar at all. Watching that makes me want to go compile all the videos we took in Thailand… which I just might do. Thanks for the inspiration. 🙂
