Robert’s Salt Water Aquarium

Robert loves his sea life. He’s a master scuba diver (which I may or may not have actually said correctly) and has traveled all over the world to go on dives. I love the ocean and I love marine life. Until I was twelve or so I was adamant on being a marine biologist and working with the dolphins. I stayed up all night working on my fourth grade science project on star fish because I didn’t want to miss anything. I spent more than half my life with the ocean in my backyard- then somewhere in the course of growing up I started to become terrified of it. Not of the creatures inside (though I’ll be honest if I saw a shark I’d probably really freak out- even if a measly 1% of them are actually dangerous to humans) but of the vastness. Photos of coral and lots of fish are really exciting but those photos of just water -everywhere- give me chills. But Robert tells us about how the fish love to be fed from his hand, and how they are shy around new people, and recognize him, and how everything inside his massive tank is alive and has a purpose in providing a perfect equilibrium for the life inside. It’s amazing. I’ve asked Tom to one day take me diving, even though I’ll be scared at first, it’s something I’d really like to try.

I’ve always found the ocean terrifying, but these pictures are purely serene. You might have just convinced me to become a certified scuba diver. 🙂

I know exactly what you mean. I love the ocean, and I love to be near it – but I only want to go in to it up to my knees. The ocean itself is like a siren and could sweep you away.
