Take Away, Bathroom Shelves, and a Landscape of Tom

Happy Monday, everyone! Thanks to everyone who commented/emailed/etc after that last entry about Tom. He is doing much better than he was last week, but still has this terrible cough that just won’t seem to split. However, he was very delighted that people took the time to wish him a speedy recovery. You folks are awesome!

So, are you ready for another Spurred update? I SURE AM. (No sarcasm there, I really am excited.) Today marks 276 out of 365, it’s the final stretch. The Goodbye Miss, Hello Mrs was so hard for me, I guess I thought that if I did a 365 project shooting whatever subject I wanted it would be a lot easier. Not sure why I thought that!

Anyway, my favorite shot in this bunch is without a doubt the landscape prompt. I knew immediately as soon as I saw that I wanted to try and do a landscape of Tom’s sleeping form. When I put the 12 photos together to create the landscape effect the result made it slightly skewed and slanted, but I still love it.

My least favorite is the “One Joy Scatter A Hundred Griefs” photo, because I never know what to do with the sentence prompts and that frustrates me. =)

And I’m going to give you THREE random factoids today:
1.) The meals inside those take away boxes are (because I’m sure you’re dying to know?) vegetable low mein and fried rice. Also, I think “take away” is an Irish saying. Perhaps it is English? What do you call it? I think in the US it is called “take out”. (I love slight little differences like these.)

2.) The Land Before Time (#1, I don’t think I was a kid anymore when the other movies came out?) was my favorite favorite movie as a little girl. I definitely crawled around my house pretending to be a “long neck” dinosaur on an epic adventure. What was your favorite? (Feel free to comment, I’d love to know!)

3.) Can you see me in the landscape picture of Tom? I’m right above his hip/butt. =)

Sometimes it’s just take away night.

One Joy Scatter A Hundred Griefs” (May 25th)

I wanted to do a family type photo for this, but we were rushing to do something on this day (I forget what it was now)- and this was actually the test shot so I’d know what settings to use. We didn’t end up with the time to come back and shoot so this is all I had. =)

Test” (May 26th)

Printables to help with our Japanese study. (We’re both passed this point, but they were too cute not to hang up.) If anything it reminds us to do our daily study.

Closet” (May 27th)

We don’t have a lot of closet space in this apartment, and both being little pack rats doesn’t help either. After we put up the shelf for Bruno, I decided to put one up in the bathroom as well to clear up what little counter space we have. The result is AMAZING. I don’t know how I ever went without it! Here’s a full view shot because I’m a sucker about matching and I thought I’d show off the cool maroon things. We’re about to change it to oranges and tans (with stone bathroom pieces) so it’s especially important that I document it now.

Repeat” (May 28th)

Paper” (May 29th)

Orange” (May 30th)

Me doing Yoga in my orange Land Before Time tee-shirt on my orange mat. I like orange. =)

I can’t believe you stole my Leonardo AGAIN for a photo–“One Joy Scatter A Hundred Griefs”!

I love “Repeat” and “Landscape.” I am kind of marveling at the latter!

Where did you find that hiragana chart? I would love something similar for my kanji!

DUDE! We totally have that pull-up bar that fits in the door frame! It’s awesome. I love being able to just slip it in a closet when we’re not using it.

We have crazy studs in our walls, too, definitely hindered me on more than one home-improvement project. -___-

i like the landscape shot!! so clever!

your shelves inspire me to want to put up my own. my hubby is not a fan of the idea only because he doesn’t want to put huge holes in the walls (we live in an apartment). i long for more organization in our house haha

Hey Sarah, we live in an apartment too and we had to use anchors too, but the holes are relatively small for shelves like these and shouldn’t be too hard to fill up with filler when we’re done. It was worth it for organization, for us!

i think take away is a UK term. they called it that in italy, too, but in italian it was “da portare via” – to take on the street. here we call it “to go” if you’re in the store and they ask, “for here or to go?” but we call it take out when we’re like, “do you just want to get take out.” i like those sorts of differences too! 🙂

I’m pretty sure in Michigan they just called it “take out”. But in Cali it was always “to go”.

Another term I noticed recently was “go off”. When I was in Michigan I was telling my mom that we had meant to bring a pie to eat so it didn’t go off before we got back, and she laughed and said, “go off” is said “go bad” in Michigan. As soon as she mentioned I realized she was right but I didn’t even notice my switch in verbiage!

Dude! Nicely done with the landscape. In one of my upper photo classes in college a girl I knew did a series of “body landscapes.” She’s from central California where rolling hills are a common site, and in the summer time when the grass dies and turns yellow it often looks like folds of skin. So she did a whole series of photos imitating those rolling hills, but with bare skin. Pretty awesome. I love stuff like that!

I was aaaall about Land Before Time, too! LOVED that movie. I watched some of the later sequels in high school, but they were terrible. My first loves when it came to childhood movies, though, were Benji (I still remember peeing myself as a toddler when I thought he was in danger!) and Milo & Otis. My mom actually banned me from renting Milo & Otis at some point because I tortured our family with it so much, hah!

Also, I’m super jealous of your wall shelves! That’s something Chris and I have been wanting to do for years, but our apt. walls are plaster and I get the willies just putting a single nail in to hang a picture up. I imagine one of these days I’ll start hammering away and one tiny crack will start to spread in all directions and then POOF! The whole wall crumbles at my feet. Haha. I love being dramatic. 😉

Thank you! That sounds like an incredible series, too. I do miss the hills in California. Most of what you see here (and in Michigan) is very flat and unless it’s autumn and you can see the colors of the leaves, it’s pretty boring landscape wise.

And I’m totally with you about the sequels. I was pretty horrified when I saw some of those, and they just… kept… going! Haha. I didn’t see Benji or Milo & Otis, I don’t think. I did see Homeward Bound though, and I loved that!

The walls/shelving/etc is another reason I’m definitely ready for a home. We have drywall, but for some reason the studs are made of steel- and they aren’t the average distance apart. I was so excited about this pull up bar that was supposed to fit in your door frame, but our door frames are abnormally sized. So we took that back and got one to go up between an open space, but the studs were steel. And THEN we got a wall mounted one only to find out our studs aren’t placed like they should be!! I was so frustrated I just wanted to throw my hands up and buy a house. (I like being dramatic too.)
