Spurred

The End of January

With this post, we finish the Spurred photographs for January. I know, I’m so behind, but every time I get ready to share a post I realize I want to post about something exciting that just happened. But instead of posting about a surprise package in the mail or a birthday, I’m trying desperately to catch you up in the project. I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!

Identity

You can’t really see this very well, it just looks like a glittery rock in the photo, but in real life it looks like an entire galaxy is tucked away inside this stone. I forget what it’s called, but it stole my breath away when I first saw it. I keep it tucked away in my change purse, which is on me at all times. Sometimes I like to just hold it in my hand while it’s in my pocket. It reminds me of how small (and big) I am. Of how big (and small) the universe is. That in the end I am … simply stardust. It brings thankfulness and wonderment.

Tradition

My sister Kat is two years younger than I, and we’ve played every Final Fantasy game together, the moment it came out. This marathon would include pillow fights, writing down codes or drawing maps, and endless snacking. When Final Fantasy XII came out, she was in Germany for a year, and even though I had it on preorder, and picked it up the day it was released, I left it wrapped and untouched until she came home over a year later.

This year I didn’t pick it up when it first came out, because I knew she was over seven hours away and I guess I was avoiding feeling whatever it was I was going to feel (sadness, loss) about it. But I picked it up for her as a Christmas gift and on boxing day Tom ordered ourselves a copy- so we can still play through together, even if it’s at a distance.

Smell

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a lot of things (marine biologist, actress, alien, author…) but this is one of the few I actually almost went to school for. I was an apprentice to a kick ass herbalist for about a year but decided in the end that I didn’t need to spend a ridiculous amount of money stuck inside buildings learning out of textbooks when I should be in the dirt or garden learning myself.

I still love it though, making concotions for headaches or other bodily ailments is so much fun! Though now that I’m grown up I realize that I’d be an “herbalist”, not a “witch doctor”. It’s still really fun to imagine though.

Funny

Tom and I picked up some quality handmade Japanese dishes last year my sister drove the cats up to return to living with us. (We had to wait until we had our own apartment, and we were without them for a whole year!) We picked up a shallow but big drinking dish (cats actually prefer these over big dog like water bowls!) and several smaller dishes for wet food and dry food. This kitty represents Pumpkin, because he’s cute like this and all over the place adorable. Morn is more reserved, though still just as snuggly. We picked out a fat cat bowl for him because he was fat at the time. But since he isn’t anymore I kind of feel like a jerk when he eats out of it.

Dumb

This wasn’t going to be my photo for today’s prompt at all, but then I had two brain farts while making this. Added the veggies BEFORE the cheese (Follow Your Heart), and then I forgot the pepperoni (Yves), only to open the stove and pull the pan out with my bare hands to so I could put it on. WHOOPS.

Reward

Sometimes it’s important to reward yourselves once and a while.

    Pizza so yummy!!!
I have never ever played FF, but my boyfriend loves it and has played it his whole life so I’ve watched him play a few times. It’s so beautiful. Last month we went to go see a show called ‘Distant Worlds’ which featured the Sydney Symphony playing songs from all the games. It was amazing! They had a big screen projection of video from the games going while they played and even though I had no idea what was going on, it was so beautiful and moving. I really enjoyed myself and bought/downloaded the CD off the Distant Worlds website as soon as I got home! I was never allowed to have gaming consoles as a kid, I only just got my first one (a wii!) for my birthday last week, so I have a lot of catching up to do. Somehow the music on my Game Boy games never really translated into the real world in the same way FF did.

Your post about Kat reminded me of how Hilary and I would play the N64 Zelda games. Except we were slightly more competitive about it. aka she discovered walkthroughs online and I didn’t know there was such thing! Still makes me want to put down the laptop and boot up the Wii ( because I totally bought the Zelda games).
