Mississauga Personal Words & Photos With Tom

The One That Sara Already Did

So. It appears that my lovely wife has stolen my fire and posted photos from our trip to the conservation area before I did. As such, I hope you all really, really love seeing photos of nature, because that’s all I have to share with you today. Hopefully you’ll forgive me.

In actuality, these photos are not from the same trip. I had gone to the same conservation area with my father a few days earlier in the week and taken all of these photos specifically for this post, only to foolishly go there with Sara a few days later, whereupon she took all sorts of amazing photos and posted them before I did.

I didn’t manage to get a picture of me shaking my fist like an angry grandpa when I realized this, but I’m sure you can imagine what that would look like yourself.

It’s funny… as a kid I used to ride my bike all the time and I loved it. But until this trip I hadn’t ridden my bike in years and years (To give you an idea of how long it’s been, the last time I remember riding my bike (It’s the blue one, in case you were wondering.) I had to stand on my tip toes when my butt was on the seat.) I imagine that getting my own car stole the love I had for my bike, but the truth is that there is no replacement. It’s a great way to exercise and get outdoors and a lot of fun.

I’d like to tell you that this next photo is a picture of my great, great uncle’s sandal –taken in 1902– who was lost in the deep forest while hunting for bear and now every time I see his sandal I think of him alone and scared in the forest.

I’d like to tell you that, but in reality this is just someone’s discarded, beaten up old sandal I found on the side of the dirt path, but I thought that this colouring was so ridiculously over the top that I had to share it anyway. Sorry to destroy the illusion.

Unfortunately our trusty 7D was determined to focus on this little guy’s antennae instead of his body, but I think the photos turned out pretty well despite that.

That’s all!

For any Americans out there reading, I hope you had a great 4th of July! And for any Canadians, I hope you had a good Canada Day! (It’s on the 1st, not the 4th, in case any of you non-Canadians were wondering.) I’ll see you next week!

Oh, you can never have too much green. Loved your photos (especially the dragonfly!) and the sandal story.

Manual focus helps with the little buggers! But they all look great, Tom. My favorite is the branch hanging down with the river in the background.

Hi Tom, lovely post. I never get tired of nature photos. My entire site is about nature photos! So, for me, the more the merrier. Love the dragonfly and butterfly photos! It can be really difficult to catch those.
