2011Yoshido Yugo Loves Cats

I don’t share the work of other photographers enough. I always mean to, but I feel guilty whenever I start to make up a post because I feel like I’m getting great content without all the hard work! At least with my own photos I feel like I’ve done the leg work for the content, and that’s very satisfying to me in the end. But it’s good to share things we love sometimes because then you get to find something new to enjoy, too. And most of the readers I have lately have come from other places. So I guess the moral of the story here is that sharing is caring, and I’m definitely going to try harder to pay it forward more often.
Featuring the work of Yugo Yoshida
Yugo Yoshida is a flickr friend of mine that I just can’t get enough of. He takes photos of his every day life which, luckily for me, is a showcase of the Japan that I so dearly love. But the kicker is he loves cats, and it shows! I could favorite every single cat photo he takes, if I haven’t already. He even has an entire set for photos he took while visiting 田代島 (Japan’s Cat Island), which is a place I sincerely hope to visit before I die, for obvious reasons! I’ve included some of my favorite cat photos of his (it was so hard to choose!), but if you like what you see, take a gander at his stream. He also has a blog and twitter (both in Japanese) and as usual any photo you click on here will take you straight to his original. Enjoy and HAPPY CATURDAY!

Oh wow! His work is incredible. And, well, I’m also a sucker for kitty cats! I agree with everyone else on this one, I hope you do more photographer features!

This is a little off-topic, but may I ask what type of cat Atlas is? I’m buying a kitten soon and I just think Atlas is so adorable, so I was considering getting one of the same breed!
Sara
Hi Kate!
To be honest we don’t know what kind of cat Atlas is (other than an American Shorthair) because he was adopted through Toronto Cat Rescue, and in most cases they don’t have papers or anything. I have a few guesses as to his lineage based on his behavior, but I’m not really sure if that will help!
Our vet says that his best guess is that he’s a short haired turkish van, but I’ve never in my life heard of the vans having short hair, so I’m not sure about that! He does however have all the other markings and features. (Orange on the head, back, tail, single gray spot on his back, stripes only on the tail, silky-fast drying fur, and amber eyes.) The major catch is his lack of long fur and that his orange makes up more than 20% of his fur, so perhaps he just had a van parent or grand parent!
If you can, I’d recommend visiting shelters and humane societies instead of visiting a breeder. There are so many kittens out just looking for a good home!

Those cats are so cute! I went to his Flikr stream and he has a few of very tiny kittens that are just adorable.

He’s got that typical japanese photo style.. over saturated and loads of contrast. Not my favorite style but it works on his photographs.

and that kitty standing up against the cage…? aww. be still my heart.
Nora
Ah! Thank you for sharing this! Always pleased to find more beautiful pictures of cats.
Sara
So glad you liked it, Nora! I am going to try and share other photographers at least once a month because it’s always nice to find new work to admire. =)

I heart his work, too, big time! One of my very favorite Flickr contacts… Like you said, for OBVIOUS reasons.
Happy Caturday, Sara!

Girl, I miss your Frida Calico blog! It was my go-to shop for high quality kitty photos. (And one day we should plan a trip to Cat Island!) Happy Caturday!!!
