So, when you think of Ireland do you think of cottages, wild horses, endless rolling green hills, flutes and violins? Well those are some of the first things that come to mind for me. I’ve had an extremely romanticized vision of Ireland since I was a little girl. Being swept off my feet by a gentle Irish man, visiting, seeing the countryside, encountering wild animals…
I just never thought those things would actually happen to me. I read this book when I was a little girl called, Into the Land of the Unicorns and fell in love with the idea of a magical enchanting world and beautiful white unicorns. (I even used to write letters to my friends in the mail as ‘Lightfoot’) and my heart quite literally stopped when this delicate creature stepped out of the brush.
She let me walk right up to her (as you can tell since this was taken with a 50mm) to photograph her. I stood on a nearby rock and waited for about five minutes silently until she decided I was okay again and walked toward me. I probably could have stayed for hours, and maybe I did, just connecting with this amazing creature.

20 Jan 2011 at 2:38 pmHaha, I just did this the other day. I was on someone’s blog and became really excited that our name was spelled the same and then I commented to tell her how excited I was that they were spelled the same and wouldn’t you know it, I spelled it wrong. Durr.

19 Jan 2011 at 6:46 pmWhat beautiful photographs, and what an amazing opportunity to get to photograph her so closely! I can’t remember if I read Into the Land of the Unicorns, but the title rings a bell and the covers look really familiar too (I googled it).

19 Jan 2011 at 5:16 pmIt only just occurred to me how interesting it is that the Irish folk trust others with their horses so readily. Around here the horses are penned far from the road and any photos must be taken with zooms.

19 Jan 2011 at 5:32 pmSame with sheep. Sheep (at least in Co Mayo) literally roam the road and countryside and nobody seems to mind.

I too wrote letters. Except they were letters to Mr. Coville expressing how much I adored his book! *nerd*
