When I was little my dad listened to a lot of instrumental music that was classified as “new age”. Enya, David Arkenstone, Ray Lynch, Jean Michel Jarre, and more. I loved it because I lost myself in my own imagination and imagery for hours. That love stayed with me as I grew, and now over half my music library remains soundtracks to video games or movies, modern pianists, and soothing electronic trip hop.
Forest Swords was a real treat; I loved how he had film photographs and short reels displayed behind him as he performed, that they played physical instruments, and that the bassist played in his socks. He was also kind enough to play my friend’s favorite song as the outro of his set. (My friend tweeted something like, please play this and I’ll mail you a taco.) Who could say no? If you like electronica or trip hop, check out his tumblr to see if he’ll be in a city near you.
