2012Time Traveling To The End of July
I hope everyone had a fabulous new year. Thanks so much for all the feedback on my year end recap, I almost didn’t write it up. I was up until 3am working on it, but I’m so glad I did it because I realized that I worked really really hard last year and it’s always good to reflect on the year and decide what worked and what didn’t. And thank you for all the birthday wishes on Twitter, Facebook and via email- you folks really spoil me. It was great seeing all those. I’m officially back from vacation as of yesterday, so it’s back to regular posting!
The Spurred project is over, and to be honest, I’m not sure what to do with myself! I feel so strange in that I don’t have to take a picture of anything today if I don’t want to. (I have anyway, of course.) But I promised myself I wouldn’t do another heavy duty project this year because there are so many little projects I’d like to try. Anyway, let’s time travel back to the end of July to share those prompted photos.

Hello, Atlas! This is one of the first pictures I took of him, back when he was stuck quarantined in the bathroom. Can you see the mucus on his nose? I thought that he was sticking his tongue out like that because he had an infection and his nose was plugged up, but he does it all the time now too.
“Money” August 1st (Day 212)
Back for Tom’s birthday” I made coupons that matched the rest of the “decandance” theme. There were 62 coupons total.
“Permanent” August 2nd (Day 213)
Atlas again, the new permanent member of our family.
“Familiar” August 3rd (Day 214)
Recreating vegan versions of familiar dishes again. This one is tonkatsu.
“End” August 4th (Day 215)
So speaking of Atlas, while he was quarantined in the bathroom Tom and I took turns reading to him for an hour or so before bed.

Bubble tea, again. (I’m actually about to look up how to make it at home, because ordering it while out is getting kind of expensive!)

I loved reading through this somewhat epic entry. It’s so special to track back through your year in a very concrete and real way. I hope you don’t mind if I let that inspire me to do the same. I could use that surge of fresh thinking. Thanks not only for the inspiration but for these photographs—every oen of which feels filled with hope and positivity.

I like both bubble tea and thai iced tea. So delicious and refreshing. It will be strange not to see any spurred project photos from you anymore! Great job making it through, despite not loving every prompt

Making bubble tea is easy! If there’s a good asian market around you, go there and look for tapioca pearls, which should be there in so many shapes and sizes it’ll make your head spin. At least that’s what I discovered at the ones near me. You boil the pearls in water for 5-10 minutes until soft and then add to whatever drink. If you want to keep the pearls soft, but aren’t going to use them for a few hours just keep them in the boiling water. You can usually find packets of ready made milk tea too.

I’m so sorry I was so late in responding to this. Thank you SO much! I found the pearls and now I’m on the hunt for my favorite flavor packets. I got some really tiny pearls (which were white and turned translucent after boiling) and boiled them for 20 min (per package directions) but it just wasn’t the same as the big fat dark black pearls. They didn’t taste like much of anything but I think that’s because I didn’t have flavor powder or syrup.

I don’t like Bubble Tea, but I LOVE Thai Iced Tea and had the same revelation that I should probably start making it at home instead of ordering it at restaurants. Same goes for horchata. I bet it’s REAL easy.
