Dogs get all the credit for being smart and learning tricks and cats are left holding the short end of the stick. A lot of cats learn tricks, and I’ve personally grown fond of teaching them. I think since our cats are indoors, it’s important to stretch their brains a little and give them a challenge.
Before breakfast the boys must sit quietly (we say, “ãŠã™ã‚ã‚Š”) and wait until Tom or I asks them to “touch” or, as they’ve just recently learned, “high five”. Pumpkin is the touching master. He will touch the exact same spot you put your fingers on, no matter where it is. Atlas is the high five master, which is actually more like a really fast patty-cake for him. And Morn is the only know that knows “love me”, where he rubs his face against your hand.
Happy Caturday!

3 Feb 2012 at 7:34 amAw, I love this. It’s one of the cutest things I’ve seen. I have never thought of trying to train our cats. I’m pretty pleased that my dog, Molly, will sit and lie down when she’s told. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

30 Jan 2012 at 2:06 amI was convinced you could train cats, here’s proof!
because of recent tragic events, our family will have to look for another fuzzy friend in the future, there was a talk of cats but everyone was saying ‘you can’t train cats’, I was sure you could.
cute shots!

29 Jan 2012 at 2:13 pmAwww. I wish *I* had the discipline to teach my cats tricks. Franny plays fetch, but that was her own doing. She just came home like that, no effort on my part.
And I actually know someone who has one of the SWEETEST cats I’ve ever met, whom she adopted from a coworker because that person adopted her from a shelter and was upset that she wasn’t all super independent and loner-like. Like, what! How could you come home with the sweetest cat ever and be disappointed? Bah…

29 Jan 2012 at 9:32 amOh.my.gosh. So cute!
I am convinced cats are smarter and more people-oriented than they seem. Mine just loves playing with people…not with toys. She will chase you and then expect you to chase her back. Pretty adorable.

29 Jan 2012 at 12:05 pmI’m totally in agreement with you, Clair. I think people assume cats are generally “loner” animals that don’t enjoy people because people leave them alone a lot. They don’t play with them like they would dogs or take them for walks or try to train them, and they grow up being a little uncomfortable around people. But if you give a cat a lot of attention since they are kittens, they act a lot like dogs. I mean, they obviously still act like cats- but our cats run to greet us at the door, do tricks, and love people! That said, Pumpkin does run and hide behind the couch for a while if someone new comes over. =)

28 Jan 2012 at 5:29 pmI have 3 cats at home too, but mines are girls, one of them loves to rub her face against our hand, my family always had cats and she is the only one I have ever seen doing this, its funny to see that your cat does it too.
Cats are so smart, and usualy very moody, so they only do things when they want to, but I like to teach them new things every now and then.
