The Whisketeers

The Cat Whisperer

I’m sorry I missed Caturday yesterday! (I can’t expect Morn to save my butt every time.) Yesterday was Bronwyn’s birthday and we spent the day downtown, despite the rain, doing celebratory things (which I shall post about soon, of course) but I wanted to make up for missing yesterday by posting some of these photos of fabulous Alice along with a little story!

No doubt as you may have noticed, Morn has taken a special liking to Tom, and that’s putting it lightly. He will meow at the door if it’s time for afternoon cuddles and Tom’s not around, he loves Tom’s lap, and he follows him around sometimes just to see what he’s up too. Don’t get me wrong, he’s cuddly with me too, especially at night- but man there is something about Tom he really likes. And Tom’s dad is the same way! Both our cats will come and greet us at the door when we come home, but they greet Jim at the door too! Conclusion? Well, the only logical one of course: there is Cat Whisperer in their blood.

After today my suspicions have only become stronger. Normally shy and very timid with people, especially men, Alice hopped right up on Tom’s lap as soon as he sat down and began a cuddle fest. Much like Morn does. I’m telling you. Cat Whisperer.

(For you learning photographers- these pictures would have you believing that it was sunny and the sunlight was pouring through the windows. This is trickery! Do not be fooled! They were taken with the 35mm at 1.4 and an ISO Speed of 3200 at 7pm! Trust me, it was dark- pretty neat, huh?)

Posts like these make me really want to get a kitty! But my hubby and I are both allergic and our 2 dogs probably wouldn’t be so keen on sharing… buuuuut… I want a cuddly kitty! 🙂

I really like the 2nd to the last image in the series.

And I would not have guessed it was so late! It definitly looks like bright daytime light! (though I just had the same thing with a robin’s nest I posted… it was cloudy at the time, but I can’t say I did it on purpose! LOL. Guess I just need to get out and practice more!) Oh and a Nikon D60 doesn’t go that high with ISO and even at 1600 it would have so much more noise. Simply lovely Sara!

Aww, that’s adorable. Our cat definitely likes to cuddle with my guy more than me, so whenever she climbs into my lap, it’s almost swoon-worthy. So sweet!

In the second shot, Alice seems to be looking up at Tom adoringly, maybe asking for more stroking and cuddles. 🙂 I’ve never known anyone to attract cats like your husband and father-in-law. By the way, how is Pumpkin like? Is there someone in the family to whom he is most closest?

Haha, yeah, I don’t feel too badly about Morn favoring Tom because Pumpkin definitely favors me. I think this is because I took him everywhere as a kitten. We’d go to the grocery store together with him tucked in my coat and he sleeps on me every night. BUT- I will say this: he has a really weird radar for any time Tom and I are cuddling or hugging or close in that intimate way. He will be like a ninja cat. We’ll be embracing and then suddenly Pumpkin will be there, waiting to be picked up and included. And if Tom and I are napping on the couch, Pumpkin is there instantly. He adores group cuddles! I’ve been meaning to film such instances, I’ll have to see if I can get a little collection of Pumpkin oddity clips.

Tom has such long legs – such a perfect place for a cat to stretch out on!

If I weren’t convinced that Alice would eat Morn and Pumpkin alive (don’t let her size fool you!) I’d be ALL OVER you guys to cat-sit if the need ever arose! What a happy girl! Lindsay’s father is the only other man she feels comfortable with which is funny because he’s a loud, and quick-movement sort of dude. But a lap visit? No that’s just Tom.

I expect high ISO shots to be really grainy. Nice work! Alice looks a lot like the cat I recently helped ^_^
