Dining Out

Sushi insushi: A Japanese & Korean Family Restaurant

All right, so I know I said I’d have this post up yesterday, but as it turns out, I’ve discovered that when it comes to food photos I cannot decide between what photos to share large and what photos to make small. I’d say normally I fare pretty well, but oh no, each time I tried to post this entry it was spanning epic proportions. I hear computers across the world on slower internet connections thanking me for holding back. But this is a photoblog, and so photos you shall have. In gallery format.

So, Sushi insushi. Can I sum up our experiences (we’ve gone twice now) in one word? I think I can. That word, dear friends, is bliss. Sushi Insushi is a cozy & quaint restaurant tucked away in a corner of the Battleford plaza shops, and we stopped in after a long and successful hunt at Goodwill to be greeted by the family (the youngest son showed me his drawing of Beijing International Stadium) and the oldest (we presume) son served us with a smile. He was not your average teenager (i.e. begrudgingly grumbling about being “stuck” working for his folks on a Friday night) and instead he was genuinely pleased to be serving us; and all smiles.

Delicious Lunch Bentos

The food was superb, especially the sushi, and the miso soup is only $1. I go home with this stuff in boxes. Sooo good. The last time we were there, we struck up a conversation with the owners (thanks to an encouraging reader) and he asked us where we grew up, certain we didn’t grow up in North America. (I wonder what gave it away? Our manners, perhaps?) He was shocked and thought Tom was pulling his leg when he said he’d lived in Canada all his life. Why does this make me so proud?

I know I don’t do reviews anymore, and a lot of you won’t be in this area ever, but man, I just had to post about how great this business was. As often as we can make it over there, we’re going to be regulars. OH, and the synchronicity of finding this place, with these amazing people, after writing this entry is definitely not lost on me.

And now for photos. And see, you can click on any photo you want and it makes it bigger. So there. I get to show you all the photos I really like in larger sizes and I don’t break any computers. Win win, I’d say.

This strikes me as odd! Whenever some stand up comedian does a shtick of a Canadian they make them overly polite. Then again, so much of our country is made up of other cultures. A complicated place. 😉

I am SO JEALOUS! This place sounds (and looks) amazing!! We are desperately in need of a good sushi place here. It makes me so sad.

Also, I love, love the little hanging glass vases with flowers.

Pfft. Why on earth would you be jealous when you have THE DRESS? (In all seriousness though, I love the hanging glass too, I plan on hanging mason jars in the barn with moss, nature, and candles for our wedding!)

Ack, Liz, thanks for letting me know! It’s definitely something I’m working on, but since I host all my photos at Flickr it can get a bit tricky. But at least you can view them at 500px wide, which is what I was hoping to share them at! Bare with me and I’ll see if I can improve that.
