13 Days in Michigan (Day Two)

There are two pages of photos from July 30th. Whoops. Part of that is due to the all out photography war, but more on that later.

[flickr size=”small” float=”right”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/simplystardust/3816771776/[/flickr] The day started off with avoiding an early rising. I remember my alarm going off and I remember groggily rolling over to text Kelly and ask her if we could please put off The Omelette Shoppe so we poor Canadians (hey, almost) could sleep in a bit longer. She said yes, of course, and so sleep is exactly what we did. We had my mom’s amazing cinnamon coffee cake when we finally did wake up. Considering everything we had (dessert wise) over the trip, I think this coffee cake was my favorite.

[flickr size=”small” float=”left”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/simplystardust/3816160305/[/flickr] We took it easy by taking the girls to the library and walking around downtown Elk Rapids. Before I go on to explain the rest of the day, I’d just like to clear up this hair issue. The 30th is the day we were due for haircuts, and so, of course, I left my hair unwashed so it would suck up the highlights and what do you know- some of my favorite pictures of me and my sisters were snapped that day. Drat blast it all.

[flickr size=”small” float=”right”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/simplystardust/3816772938[/flickr] After walking around for a bit we went inside an antique store and the girls went photo crazy. Chrissy used my camera a lot that day. In fact she took this picture. I stumbled on a few things, like the poor fox sitting on a wreath on the wall, some wonderful glass jars, and a beautiful bird art piece that I am really, really regretting not picking up.

[flickr size=”small” float=”left”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/simplystardust/3816973128/[/flickr] Our last stop downtown was at the local bakery where we tried very inexpensive but downright delicious goodies. I wish I could remember what everyone had. Bronwyn had a cream cheese cookie, I had a cherry muffin, and I think one of the girls had a coconut cookie and the other oatmeal. I can’t remember now.

[flickr size=”small” float=”right”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/simplystardust/3816993606/[/flickr] Once we were back at my mother’s Bronwyn declared a photo war against the girls. Kimee was eventually armed with her DSi, and Chrissy with my Canon. (Tom and I were actually trying to get the internet to work on the DSi for a while there…) We took Morn for a walk outside (he was supposed to remain an indoor cat but mum let it slip she’s been sneaking him out for morning walks) and the photo war raged on. I spent a fair amount of time discussing the situation with Tom about whether or not I should encourage the morning walks or not. After watching him closely, Tom and I decided he’d probably be much happier. And that was that. (Though the photo war is really still going.)

[flickr size=”small” float=”left”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/simplystardust/3816235779/[/flickr] Haircut! FINALLY! It hadn’t been touched since November! (That’s an estimate.) I was unsure about what to do with color, if at all, so I opted for highlights to help keep everything together while my natural hair color grows out. And I went back to the fringe. My forehead is just too massive. End girl babble.

[flickr size=”small” float=”right”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/simplystardust/3817053362/[/flickr] For dinner we had Golden Chopsticks, a local Asian restaurant. I had the sushi, of course, and a glass of plum wine (it was delicious). The rest of the food I wasn’t impressed with at all, to be honest. I never remember getting anything but the sushi there, and the sushi was really quite good. But the rest of it was not so good.

[flickr size=”small” float=”left”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/simplystardust/3817053716[/flickr] After dinner we hit Family Video and rented two films (“Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang” and “Lucky Number Sleven”)- $1 each for a five night rental and headed back to Kara’s house to watch them. I made it through Kiss Kiss but during Sleven I fell asleep. It’s weird actually, I fell asleep so soundly that I didn’t wake up when Kara’s brother and his friends came in and said hello. I’ve never been a heavy sleeper like that, I definitely usually wake up. The behavioral oddity had me confused for quite a while after we left. I remember thinking, “I’m getting tired” and then it was a black out. There was no drifting like normal, and no slow to wake. I was out and then up again, wide awake.

So weird.

Anyway, enjoy the photos from our second day in Michigan, there certainly are quite enough.

I thought writing these days would be hard, and hard to recall, but I remember a lot and I always end up writing more than I intend to.

I adore the photo of you and Tom after your hair cut. You are stunning, and sort of remind me of the lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with the red lips, big eyes, and bangs.

Another wonderful read with stunning pictures.
