Summer is here and I am itching to hop on a bike. I could go for a picnic, grab iced tea to go, do my grocery shopping, or ride to my photoshoots. I can’t stop thinking about it, actually. Despite riding bikes all my life, this is the first time I am shopping for a bike all my own. I used a pink 5-Speed Huffy when I was in Okinawa and I would ride it every morning to swim practice. Then there were the years I borrowed my mum’s bicycle and I’d buckle my book bag into the attached baby seat.
All I can think about is what I’ll do when I get my bicycle. When we drive around I check for bike paths. I think about how long it will take me to get to places I love. I faux pedal around the apartment and ring an imaginary bell. Yesterday I found a dutch style Schwinn and round it around a quiet section of the store, testing out an elated grin and front wicker baskets.

2 Jun 2012 at 5:33 pmI love my bikes – my Rivendell and my Dutch bike! I could totally justify the cost by the massive savings of not owning a car, not buying a transit pass, and not paying for gas or insurance. Plus, bicycling is so fun!! 🙂

26 May 2012 at 9:07 amYay bicycle shopping is so exciting! Especially in the city having a bike gives you an extra sense of freedom, not being limited by roads or public transit schedules. I particularly like the teal bike up top 🙂

25 May 2012 at 4:54 pmWe (Dutch people ;)) call Dutch bikes ‘Granny Bikes’, actually 😀 I really like how they look, but I find them a bit uncomfortable. But yeah, they’re cute!
http://fiets.hema.nl/ontwerpjefiets.aspx?id=4111001 here you can design your own! It is all in Dutch though, but it’s fun!
I couldn’t live without my bike 🙂 (I actually have 3 :P)

25 May 2012 at 1:33 pmI bought my bike from Pashley Cycles, a British hand-build bicycle company. (http://www.pashley.co.uk/) They’re very similar to the ones you’ve shown here, and I think you’ll like them ^_^ Not sure about international delivery though!

25 May 2012 at 12:33 pmI really want a Dutch bike too! It’s hard to justify the cost…but they’re just so darn cute!

25 May 2012 at 1:45 pmI think if it was your primary mode of transportation to and from work, etc, it might be justifiable! But I definitely know what you mean- when I looked at the price tags my jaw dropped! I thought bikes were 100-300, not 600-1000!

25 May 2012 at 9:45 amI LOVE biking!! Although now it’s become less of “hey I can do all of my errands on this” and more into “hey let’s get a $1,000 bike so we can do 70 miles this weekend!!” I’m starting to love riding so much that the other day we went out for a 35 mile/3 hour ride and came home totally sunburnt! I keep day-dreaming about my new road bike and we’re heading to the shop today to maybe pick one out. We’ve already been to every bike shop in town and tried out multiples and I think I’m finally ready to make a decision. I hope you have fun with yours!

25 May 2012 at 1:46 pmWow, 35 miles! That sounds like such an adventure! Probably a little bit crazy for a cruiser bicycle. =)
I can’t wait to see photos of your new bicycle!

25 May 2012 at 5:34 pmIt was SO hard on my Cruiser! When I told the guy at the bike shop he just stared at me for a second and was like “are you insane?” it was so funny! I can’t wait to see what you choose!

25 May 2012 at 8:22 amThat first one looks a lot like my bike!
Too bad I can’t ride it because it’s stored in my parents’ garage, where it’s been for several years because I’m too scared of having it stolen where I live… 🙁
Sara
25 May 2012 at 1:47 pmThe thought has definitely crossed my mind, Linda! I’ve heard so many horror stories of people’s bikes being stolen that it has put me off for quite a while. Also, this area that I’m in is really not bike friendly at all- so that puts a damper on my dreams as well.
A girl can certainly window shop, though!
