A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Miss Universe Canadian delegate Stephanie Reddy. It was a really awesome experience for me, and I had the chance to meet some really great people, like make-up artist Beverly Ochoa and her hilarious husband. (People who I genuinely can’t wait to work with again!) It was my first time working in a really tight space with only one source of light, and I was terrified that I would fail going without flash because it was raining out, but everything worked out in the end. (Thanks Tom for being my lovely assistant!)
If I’m honest with myself (and you), before every shoot I imagine things going horribly wrong, but before I start shooting I just take a deep breath and then Scared Sara retreats and this person emerges who just loves shooting. Someone’s who is calm and won’t give in until she has the shot she wants. And then the photoshoot is over and Scared Sara comes back saying, “Is it over already? Well, that wasn’t so bad.”
No, no it wasn’t. It was actually a lot of fun. It was great.

27 Jun 2012 at 2:24 pmThese turned out beautifully! You are truly an amazing photographer, to be able to pull out so much light and detail in such a light-restricted situation! Sometimes I think nerves before anything can be helpful in getting your adrenaline and energy flowing; the important thing is channeling that energy into something positive, which I think you seem to have mastered! Love your work, as always!
