There is something extremely powerful about old found photographs and I always find myself wondering the specifics behind each moment. What was so important that they felt the need to capture it forever in print? This is especially true for the vernacular photos, since film and developing could be so incredibly expensive back then. It wasn’t as easy as clicking a hundred shots on a DSLR and coming out in the end with your favorite five. I started a modest collection of found photographs back in 2007 when I found a vintage photo in a second hand book I brought home from a thrift store, but I left it behind in Traverse City when I moved to Canada since I could only bring what I could fit discreetly in my car. But, since it’s Caturday, I thought I would share with you what I’m recently obsessed with- and that’s vintage cat photos. My heart just sores at all of these delightful vintage whiskers!

17 Jun 2012 at 10:59 pmi love these! i collect vintage photos with dogs in them. I have almost 200! i will usually pick up any other animal too, so I have a few cats. i love seeing how loved the pets were. i only have one studio type portrait of a dog, and it is a dapper man holding up a monocle to his little puppy. it is my favorite!

I too always wonder what the premise of old photos were. Makes you wonder and imagine so many things!
